Bye 2011!

This past year has certainly had its fair share of good and bad moments, and they have impacted my life all the same.

  • Disneyland trip w/ music
  • Class of 2012 wins 1st place Fantastics
  • Senior Ball
  • Disneyland/Comic-con w/ cousins!
  • My relationship made it through the three month haul while he was gone
  • Webcam dates/difficult time differences
  • Painted my first picture after years of stuffing my paintbrushes away
  • Grew a lot closer to the bros (through McDonald’s…always.. O_O)
  • Bowling + Smoker Eater’s w/ part of the group
  • Family Feud w/ Alexis, Cindy, and Julius
  • Pulled off Interact’s Charity Dinner after 3 hours of practice
  • Managed to get through my 1st semester of senior year
  • Endured the tedious process of applying to colleges
  • Barcode/EVHS/Parking lot/Starbucks vent/hangout session with Cindy, Diana, and Kathy
  • Discovered who’s really going to be there for me in the long run
  • Cried my eyes out over stress/school
  • Having more bonding-talks w/ my momma
  • Got much closer to my best friend

I’m sure I’m missing a bunch of other great memories… I’m so thankful for these moments, and I cannot wait for all the new memories I’m going to make this coming year.

Bring it on 2012.

The walls are closing in and I’m having a hard time breathingwhen did the walls suddenly get so close? When did people start looking down on you when you weren’t exactly like them? It’s hard to live up to the expectations set by the media, your family, everyone. I always thought life was this carefree experience that was meant to teach you lessons that would later be useful in your future, not all these tid bit things that don’t really matter in the long run. We all focus on these negative moments, not realizing that years from now we may not even remember all these moments we categorized as horrible. But it’s hard not to think about it isn’t it? With all the cynicism, it’s hard not to see the dark. It’s hard to live up to the high expectations that are placed on our shoulders; hard to ignore the whispers of stress and anxiety. Let’s face it, it’s hard to fight against pressure—against yourself, but you have to keep breathing. You have to dig yourself out of the rut. You have to keep fighting.

Inventory

It’s that time of year again when people start cramming for finals, frantically buying presents, and overall reflecting over the past year as a new year approaches. When I look back on where I was during this time of year, I feel the same: stressed, confused, tired. But you know what? I’ve finally found people that I’m sticking with for quite awhile, and one that I absolutely adore. So even if my grades aren’t what I want them to be right now, and my wallet’s probably going to shed a river of tears, I don’t really mind. I’m blessed with these amazing people that are going to be here every step of the way; why would I ask for anything more?

“Date a Guy Who Writes”

staree:

Find a guy who writes, a walking cliché of kill-you-with-words; and when you do, make no mistakes letting him go. His wit, his spontaneity, rapture and heart for aesthetics will suffice for all the romanticism you have in mind. Date that someone who doesn’t kill himself at the gym just to have the perfect body or manly facade. Date a guy who doesn’t dream of having the Brad Pitt’s face, but the one who reads, learns and writes like of John Keat’s romances. One who seeks the thrill of Stephen King’s work and appreciates the genius of Ernest Hemingway. Date a guy who doesn’t give you a litany of promises lost in the haze of cheap talk; date that someone who makes you feel you are special even before you find yourself versed in one of his poems, represented by one of his story’s characters. Date that someone who stays with you, dreams with you and writes sweet nothings on your arms for fear that the words won’t come out right when he starts speaking them.

Date a guy who writes, one who can skim the oceans in your eyes and write a line about it; someone who can translate the amber glow in your face into haiku and sonnets. Someone who never tires scribbling his pen in dire search for both muslin hazes and streaks of clarity.

He will teach you to appreciate God’s creation and find happiness in the most mundane of things— on the sun rising behind the trees, the music of birds chirping and the dance of leaves in graceful sways, the breeze that kisses your cheek, your face, touching your heart with a magical feel, all the way to your bones, sunsets and silhouettes, the placid sea and the story behind a seagull or a fishing canoe that blemishes the scene. This list can go on forever, and the guy who writes is birthed with utmost appreciation to this, with sheer gratitude and he has an innate understanding that this whole divinity is meant to be shared with someone.
